Professor Garcia's main areas of interest include history of modern philosophy, 19th-century philosophy, moral and political philosophy, and metaethics. His current research focuses mainly upon historical and systematic approaches to Kant's ethics as well as various topics in moral and political philosophy and metaethics, including practical reasoning, moral psychology, philosophy of the emotions, theories of autonomy, respect for persons, and the relationship between religion and political liberalism. He also has strong research interests in various historical figures, including the British moralists, Hume, Kant, Hegel, and Nietzsche.
